Arurtus Cichlid
Scientific Name: Melanochromis auratus
origin: native to Lake Malawi
Appearance: yellow bodies, with thick horizontal black-and-white stripes, bold black-tipped fins. Males have a dark purplish-black body with bright horizontal stripes in light blue, white, or gold. 3 to 4 inches
Lifespan: 10–18 years
Tank Size: 55 gallons (longer tanks are better to manage territories)
Temperature: 75°F - 82°F pH 7.8 to 8.5
Temperament / Behavior: Widely considered one of the most aggressive and relentless fish in the freshwater aquarium hobby
Tank Mates: Best kept in a crowded, all-cichlid tank with other highly aggressive, similar-sized Mbuna. They will terrorize or kill peaceful fish and are not safe with live plants
