Convict Cichlid

Scientific Name: Amatitlania nigrofasciata

origin: native to Central America

Appearance: striking black-and-white vertical stripes on its body. Grows to 4–6 inches in the wild, but usually maxes out around 3–4 inches in home aquariums

Lifespan: 10 to 15 years

Tank Size: A minimum of 20 to 30 gallons for a single pair, though a much larger, 4-foot-long tank is needed if keeping them with other fish

Temperature: 78°F - 82°F (25°C–28°C), with a pH of 6.5 to 8.0

Temperament / Behavior: Highly territorial and aggressive. They are known to successfully defend themselves against fish several times their size
