Midas cichlid
Scientific Name: Amphilophus citrinellus
origin: Lakes and river systems in Costa Rica and Nicaragua
Appearance: Famous for developing a large, bulbous head hump (nuchal hump) and shifting from gray to vibrant orange, red, or white as they mature, these heavy-bodied fish grow up to 12–14 inches
Lifespan: 10-15 years
Tank Size: 125+ gallon
Temperature: 74°F to 80°F pH: 6.5 to 7.5
Temperament / Behavior: Extremely territorial and aggressive; often kept as a single, solitary "wet pet"
Tank Mates: Best kept alone. If attempting tank mates, only massive, equally aggressive Central American cichlids (like Oscars, Convicts, or Jack Dempseys) in an oversized tank will work.
